Moving!

If you've been wondering why I've been so quiet for so long, well there's a simple explanation: I have a new blog! I've been thinking about this for awhile now and finally took the plunge to do so about 3 months ago, back in December 2007. I've been busy ever since then, tweaking the new blog and even though it's still not quite ready yet, I feel it's about time I show you what I've been working on otherwise you'd think I dropped off the face of the earth!

With this new move I am also changing the name of my label to Mimpi. Why? Well, I've spent the better part of my so-called adult life dreaming about running a business that I was passionate about and now that I am kick-starting my business to full throttle I thought it'd be kinda appropriate to call my small little business Mimpi (which in Malay means Dream).

It's going to be rather sad to leave behind PureMoon... I've made many wonderful friends and clients through this blog so I hope you'll be able to drop by at Mimpi (http:www.mimpimurni.blogspot.com). Remember, the blog still needs tweaking but I'd love to have you join me in my reverie ;)

I really should be working now but my head is not screwed on right at the moment.

I really should focus and zero in on what needs to get done.

I really should bear my responsibilities like the adult I am (I think?) even though all I really want to do now is snuggle in bed with hot chicken soup and read Stardust for the umpteenth time.

I really should just count my blessings, get organized and plunge into the mountainous pile of work that awaits me with gusto for I know once I'm done, I'll have a nice glowy feeling of accomplishment.

Ugh. I hate Mondays.

Expectations

2008 has been pretty good so far. Exciting even. I have a few things in the works and am keeping busy with my multitude of plans plus a pretty busy work schedule (yes, I have a full time job too!). More will be revealed soon... when I'm ready.

Before logging off to work on aforementioned plans, thought I'd share with you (oh silent blog reader) some pictures of my new packaging which was borne out of necessity. Pos Malaysia's bubble envelopes are kinda ugly I'm afraid, so much so that I've had to "mask" them with wrapping paper. Thank God for adhesive spray. That stuff is genius I tell you! The accessories are individually wrapped with colored tissue paper and finished off with little ribbon bows. I then pack everything in an organza bag with a simple handmade thank you card (which I sometimes include a little extra something for large orders). This all then goes into the "masked" bubble envelope.

Why so much trouble for packaging?? Because I love you, my dear customers (how's that for buttering you up? Hehehe). Well honestly, I buy a lot online and I love, love, loooove receiving pretty parcels with lots of colorful paper and ribbons. It may be a girl thing, I don't know, but anything beautifully wrapped never fails to increase the pleasure factor for me, what more for my customers right? Anyways, I like having an excuse to shop for pretty packaging. So there.

Time for partying with great friends (or family), spectacular fireworks at KLCC and more parties! Don't drink and eat too much, make sure you pace yourself and wear comfy shoes if you're heading towards KL because you may end up walking a long, loooooong way with the horrendous jams KL is renown for during New Year's Eve.

Anyways, whatever your plans may be for this New Year's Eve I hope you'll have a great year ahead of you filled with love, abundant blessings and colorful experiences.

Download this calendar/planner for FREE (with my Christmas and New Year wishes and blessings) and print it out on to A4 paper to start using it in the new year. It has ample room for you to scribble in notes and reminders, plus it won't look out of place at the office or at home. You can also shrink it down in size and bind it together to make your own handy mini planner to carry around.

Weekends

My weekends have been great and I have pictures to prove it. 2 weeks ago was a mini KTJ reunion as we celebrated the union of two dear friends who were my classmates in KTJ and have been together ever since then. Well, sort of but hey, what matters is that they were made for each other and have inevitably tied the knot. Yay, Shimi and Lisya! I'm so happy for you two! It was great catching up with everyone especially those who I haven't seen since graduation. Gosh, can you believe that it has been 10 years since high school? It feels like it was just yesterday we were all hanging out at the boy's boarding house or at the tuck shop in ratty tees and shorts and now here we are all dressed up talking about work and marriage. Crazy!
Then, last Friday we had another wedding to attend. This time it was Meme & Hani's. Congrats you guys! Right after that, the bf and I were "summoned" to SevenAteNine at Ascott. Seven Eight Nine. Geddit? Anyways, me in my kain batik which I wore for the wedding (the bf wouldn't let me change out of as he thinks it's very sexy) and the bf joined the usual suspects who were there for their ritual Friday Happy Hour which always extends to the wee hours of the morning... Wheeee! Saturday rolled in and we vegged out to recuperate from Friday night. On Sunday we emerged from our comfy caccoon to have banana leaf rice all the way in Bangsar at Sri Nirwana Maju which is right opposite Bangsar Village 2. It was soooooo good digging in with your fingers in an all you can eat supply of rice, veggie, curry and freshly fried fish and chicken all served on a banana leaf. Almost primitive but so satisfying and YUM! My stomach is growling now just describing it. I'm so going to make the bf promise to take me there again this coming weekend! Right after the glutton fest, we scooted back to Ampang to hang out with some friends at Alexis. A full tummy, an iced coffee, Reader's Digest and snuggling up to the bf sealed a series of great weekends.

Life should be filled with blissful weekends don't you think?

I've been listening to Maliq & D'Essentials, especially my fave track Terlena. They're all about smooth, dreamy jazz with a definite feel good vibe. Oh, god... that sounds so cliche but it's so true! Haha. Anyways, there's no Maliq in Maliq & D'Essentials (surprise!), they're from Jakarta, Indonesia and yes, some of the tracks are in Indonesian which is great because the Indonesian and Malaysian language was made for smooth, dreamy jazz in my humble opinion. I've also been shopping on Etsy and drolling over some prints at Belle and Boo. They're just so achingly adorable! I got this print on the left entitled Hello Chick. Now tell me, how could anyone resist a bunny and a chick???

I'm also getting this thanks to Etsy. They're actually called Little Girl Button Headband in Ladybug Luck and as the name suggests, they are actually meant for little girls but guess what? I'm getting it for myself!! Hehehehe. I got lovely Renee, the lady behind Magpie's Nest to custom make it in adult size just for me! Yay Renee! She's so nice and amazingly easy to work with. I've bought from her before and she also custom made that order.

I've also been watching reruns of Miami Ink. I'm not really sure what it is about the show but it's just so darn engrossing! The boyfriend thinks I'm in love with Ami James and Chris Nunez who are two out of the six tattoo artists on the show. Yeah, they're hawt (sorry baby) but really, the art on the show is just amazing! Plus, I've been thinking of getting a tattoo for the longest time. I'm just looking for an image amazing enough to commit to ink on my body... and a good enough reason. I'm definitely of the school of thought that you should only get a tattoo to commemorate a significant occasion. That way, the tat is special and you're less likely to regret it later. I'm still waiting for that occasion... Have a Happy Tuesday!

Wow, It's been yonks since I posted anything here eh? Well, that's because I've been doing lots of posting here instead: a super secret blog for all the people invited to my bf's SURPRISE PARTY! Yup, yup, yup... little ol' me and 2 of my bf's buddies threw Mr. It's-Hard-To-Trick-Me an AWESOME rock themed party last Saturday complete with scrumptious finger food, a DJ and his smoke machine, lights and booming sound system, Guitar Hero on a big screen projector, exotic dancers, 27 bottles of alcohol in total, 150 helium balloons and about 100 of our closest friends! And yeah, the birthday boy was totally surprised! YAY! Read all about my scheming and planning at the "other blog" and you'll understand why I've been super busy. I still have yet to come down from the high of partying my brains out and yes, I have a lot of work to catch up to so I'll be away from this blog for a little while more but I'll be back with more updates and lots and lots of pictures! This picture is was taken from a video of a ride the boyfriend and I took earlier this year. It's called the AJ Hackett G-Force X ride and we rode it TWICE, the second right after the first mad ride.

This picture is up to remind me a few things: 1. Try something new and exciting and maybe something a little scary every once in a while, 2. Life is exactly like a thrill ride (scary at first but definitely fun), 3. It's OK to scream and laugh at the same time, and finally 3. Don't let go of those safety bars.

I've Been

Listening to Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" over and over again. I love the emotion and rawness of her voice. And it's such a great song to sing out loud to my dogs. They haven't felt the urge to join in yet though.

Reading "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemirovsky. I'm at mid-book and so far it's been an easy read, touching and charming in its details. Yup, this is a book I'd recommend to anyone who loves their fiction tinged with a little insight to historical events.

Coveting this print on the left from the Yumi Yumi Shop. This print entitled "Make a Wish" is innocence and simplicity personified in my humble opinion. Love the yellow dress especially and the flushed pink cheeks just slay me. Do check out the rest of this wonderful artist's work at the link above.

Hey folks, fasting month for Muslims is over! To mark the end of this blessed month, Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid ul-Fitri or what is known as Hari Raya in this part of the world for a whole month(!). It's a time of forgiveness, visiting friends and family members, money packets for kids, lots of ketupat, rendang and homemade cookies! And not to mention an additional 5 kilos for me...

I just got back from my kampung and before it gets too late to wish you so, Happy Eid Mubarak or Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all of you and Maaf Zahir Batin! (which loosely translates to, "Forgive my physical and emotional wrongdoings")

Gemilang is Malay for "Splendorous". It's a set which consists of the necklace above (closeup on the left) and the earrings below. I actually made this for myself but someone snapped up the set right off me! So here's another set... for sale this time.

:: Materials :: Made with gold filled findings & Swarovski bicones in Aurum.
:: Measurements :: The necklace measures 50cm in total and the pendant hangs at 4cm which drops right above the bust line. There's also a 5cm extension chain at the clasp. The earrings are 5cm.

I love my new jewelry displays/props. Yup, the birdcage above is for jewelry, NOT for live itty bitty birds. The jewelry tree below is a fave too. I bought two but am thinking of getting more since it's so useful and purdy. Can't wait to decorate it with feather butterflies and paper flowers, and then finally sprinkle in my jewelry.

A Hero Dies

My mother found Hero lying dead on our neighbor's car park bay. She called me in tears and I immediately rushed home from the boyfriend's house.

I found my poor, darling champ lying in a pool of blood and surrounded by flies. He had obviously been dead for many, many hours and my horrible, irresponsible neighbor (whose car park bay Hero was found on) just left this poor little creature to rot (or hoping that somebody else will pick up the "mess")!

After burying him next to Bun Bun Bunny, I did a little sleuthing and found out that the very same horrible, irresponsible neighbor was the one who ran over Hero who was probably waiting for me to come home as was his habit.

In case you don't already know, I feed all the stray cats in my neighborhood but Hero here was one of the few that really stood out as he'd stake out my car park bay day in and day out, rain or shine, and follow me home to be fed on the steps leading to my house.

Anyways, said horrible and irresponsible neighbor has claimed ignorance but seriously? A dead cat in the middle of your car park bay is pretty hard to miss, especially if you've been seen driving in and out of it. In my opinion at least. Too bad there aren't any Animal Police around these parts. I'd love to see this guy publicly embarrassed and handcuffed on reality TV.

I miss Hero very much. I still open my car door expecting to see him there, ready to nuzzle my outstretched hand and meowing softly. He was a sweet and undemanding cat, and deserved a home to shelter him against horrible and irresponsible people.

Glittery, Pretty Things

Ok, Ok, O-KAY! I really need to take pictures of my new jewelry but in the meantime, just to remind you that I CAN make jewelry, here are some pictures of my previous work.The rain here has not been very conducive to jewelry photo taking and well, rainy days always make me want to slow down, hang out at a nice, cozy cafe with a good book or my lap top and indulge in a yummy slice of warm pie or cake. Unfortunately, this being fasting month for Muslims, I just end up slowing down to an almost sloth-like pace and playing with my (fluff)Friend on Facebook. Have I mentioned that I'm addicted to Facebook?

Burn Out

I've yet to crank out the camera to show you all the glittery new things I've been working on. These last 3 - 4 months I've had to fill some large orders plus I had a major work commitment and have not had time to create any new designs, much to my chagrin. Now that I have some free time this week I've allowed myself the luxury to let my imagination and creativity run wild, making piece after piece that are totally unrelated for up to 10 solid hours at a stretch! One minute I'm making chunky, bohemian earrings and the next I'm making a demure, girly pearl necklace. It's been fun but I think I'm now suffering from creativity burn out. I sat a full hour at my work bench today, going though my design sketch book, looking at and fingering my beads and findings, and was totally uninspired! This shall pass soon (I hope) and while I wait it out, I'm going to update my neglected Facebook and watch some TV drama. How's that for sparking some imagination?

Keep it Simple

I have to admit to myself that I sometimes over think things. I tend to over analyze even the most minuscule of details and I hate to do anything without some sort of plan. And yet, I'm soooo unorganized. How the heck does that work out? Beats me.

All I know is that all my problems always tend to get very, very complicated and arriving on a solution involves some very, very messy work. So when things kinda blew up on my face a few days back I had an epiphany. Why complicate things? Keep it simple.

I now repeat it like a mantra. It helps my sanity.

All Shopped Out

Our group of 9 (5 ladies, 1 man & 3 kids) left Kuala Lumpur for Bangkok on Tuesday evening in excitement. 6 out of our group had never been to Bangkok or in my little sister's case, too young to remember her trip to BKK 2 years ago, the three of us who had been there on numerous occasions were filling them in on the glory of shopping and eating till your heart's content in that wonderful capital city of Thailand. And boy, did we shop and ate plentiful!

Although I came home with diarrhea (I think an omelet stuffed with mussels's the culprit) I did fortunately also came home with 2 suitcases of clothes, shoes, bags and various arts & crafts supplies.

The best shoes to be found cheaply are at Pratunam's shopping district. I found so many great bargains that I came home with a total of 18 pairs of shoes! The ones pictured here are some of my favorites.

The red and mustard yellow bag on the right were bought at Bangkok's infamous MBK Center and the other two were from the previously mentioned Pratunam. MBK is the equivalent of KL's super bargain Sungai Wang Shopping Mall only bigger! Although there are A LOT of great bargains, you really have to keep your eyes peeled to spot quality.

...consider me a devotee. It's time for my yearly pilgrimage folks. I'm going to Bangkok to shop till I drop! I've been making my way to BKK every year now but always on a tight schedule. This time around I have a little more time and I've been researching like mad, thus I fully intend to put my knowledge to good use (at the mercy of my wallet and feet of course). And to prove that I mean business, here's what I'm taking with me to Bangkok: the clothes on my back, a pair of PJs, a bursting wallet and 2 huge *empty* suitcases.

P/S: Thank you everyone for your emails and phone calls regarding the kitties. I'm proud to report that 2 kitties have found loving homes. Yay! :)

Save the Kitties!

This is a desperate plea to all animal lovers (especially cat lovers) who may be reading this. You see, I live in a condominium and there's been a recent change of management. This new management is hell-bent on getting rid of all the cats that are roaming the condo complex and have resorted to baiting them with poison! 2 out of 15 kitties are now missing and we fear the worst.

These kitties are domesticated and totally lovable (plus toilet trained by my mom and in one cat's case, spayed) but are now homeless because their irresponsible owners have abandoned them. My mother and I have been feeding these poor kitties (15 in all) and although we'd love to keep them for ourselves, we have 2 dogs that simply will not get along with cats. Right now, 6 of the kitties are living in my open-space laundry area (away from the dogs) where they are also free to roam outside. We're very anxious for their safety as we can not contain them in this area.

Yes, I know there's always the SPCA but I really do not want to leave the kitties there as I've read in the newspaper that they put down hundreds of cats and dogs every month. I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had to resort to the SPCA. Back in the Land of Living

After 8 long months of planning, 8 looong months of ceaseless emails, phone calls, letters, deals, promotions, designing and meetings it finally happened. Last weekend was the ultimate culmination I've been talking about. 8 long months of spending almost every waking moment thinking, breathing and dreaming of the Malaysian Salsa Festival and it has finally come to pass.

Big WHEW!

I'm glad to report that almost everything went off without a hitch. I've had so many glowing compliments and praises that my head is threatening to explode any minute now. Little do the participants know the amount of work and thought put into every minute detail and the small army of people we had behind the scenes who executed everything seamlessly. My hats off to the Organizing Committee and Ground Crews! I'm truly blessed to have these people enrich my life... OK, OK, before I start singing "Kumbaya" have a look at some of the fantastic pictures James took during the festival...

Anyways, I've been in hibernation ever since the whole hullabaloo died down last Sunday. Managed to finish 2 thick and juicy books this week, did a whole lot of nothing and now I am ready to face the world once again. Wonder what's the next big project?

I was feeling very book-hungry last week so I picked up a few magazines to whet my appetite. Now, I used to buy heaps and heaps of magazines (I bought 15 at one go this one time... crazy huh?) on top of getting at least 4 new books every month but ever since I stopped living precariously off the parental unit's supplementary credit card, I've had to restrict myself A LOT. I now only buy InStyle and KLue religiously and indulge in at least 2 new books every month. This month however, I figured I deserve a browse friendly treat and seeing that I haven't had time to go to my fave bookstore, I stopped by my local mamak newsstand. To my surprise, my local mamak newsstand had gone all craftsy during my dry-magazine-spell. Look what I found...

Adorn is totally fabulous... I love all the ideas, patterns and resources. Oh, and the pictures are gorgeous! Highly recommended for all you craftsy types and good luck looking for it if you're Malaysian... I was told by the mamak that he only had 4 copies of the magazine TOTAL and that it only comes out every 4 months so you better rush out and get it NOW. You may have better luck at one of the big bookstore chains though. Hmmmm, I wonder if the distributor could possibly send it to me direct?

Ah, it's been awhile since I've been to my fav bookstore Kinokuniya. In fact, I have yet to pick up THAT book that everyone has been madly scrambling for (insert collective gasp here). I do know however that when I DO get it, I won't be able to put it down until I've finished every single page which would mean my already crazy schedule will become even more so (if that's even possible). So the bookworm in me has had to give in to the workaholic in me... just for now.

Sigh, I miss that the calm hush and new paper smell of a bookstore. I always come out of bookstores feeling slightly more intelligent and capable. Am I the only one?

To placate my book hunger, I've been stalking Amazon. Here's my list of books to get once my life gets back to normal:

Oh hey, if you haven't read Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, go get it. I lack the words to describe it but I can tell you that it made me cry and I love books that provoke a reaction as ALL books should really... the right sort of reaction that is. No one would want to you read The Serial Killer Files and go out on a murder rampage now would they?

Stray Dog lovin'

I'm taking time off my hectic schedule to share with you a website I stumbled on today that left me charmed and delighted... and wishing my online shopping budget could accommodate a purchase from this website (I cringe just thinking about the shipping costs to Malaysia).

Do check it out anyways: Stray Dog Designs. They sell furnitures and fixtures made in Mexico (sold in the US of A, so if you're from there I'm very, very jealous) and everything is colorful, whimsical and totally unique. Just the way I like it.

Oh, and read how Stray Dog Designs was inspired by a, what else? A stray dog! How appropriate! I was already charmed by the products but the story about La Princessa totally sealed the deal. I'm going to send them an email now and try to get me one of these lamps and maybe this and this.

Hectic

There's soooo much to do for this big project I'm working on and I've had to send one of my big jewelry order in batches as I'm behind on my other orders too. I usually send out jewelry orders within 2 - 3 working days but this month has just been plain crazy with wholesale and bulk orders, weddings and events to attend every weekend, Salsa classes, Jewelry classes and did I mention I have this huge project that I'm working on?

Here's a little sampler of one of my bulk orders... the one that had to go in batches. Yup, I'm such a lucky girl to have wonderfully understanding customers!

Matryoshkas for a Party

These little bracelets, or what I call Daria, are the custom made favors that mummy May requested for daughter Sara's guests to her fab 9th Karaoke Birthday Party. How cool is that? Each Russian doll or Matryoshka charm is accompanied by a teeny tiny pewter heart on a silver cable chain bracelet. Sweet and simple, perfect for little girls and little-girls-at-heart. Retails at RM30 (child size).

The necklace Dani was custom made especially for Sara the b'day girl. There's a matching bracelet too but the picture I took was too blurry as I only had the night before to take the pictures before delivery and night photography isn't my exactly my strong point. Oh well, this is a sweet pink Matryoshka or Russian doll charm with Rose Swarovski crystals on a fine silver cable chain plus an extender for a growing young lady and a tiny pewter heart for love. Retails at RM40 (child size necklace).

I see the Light

So I had a bad week (read previous entry). However this week I see the light at the end of the tunnel... At a friend's advice, I decided to list down everything I have to do in order of importance and tick off them off as I work my way down list. At first I thought the advice was kinda corny and old-fashioned (sorry dude!) but it's actually a really sound and practical advice. Heck, now that it's on paper, it even looks like I don't have that many things to do! Wishful thinking maybe, as I'm pretty sure as the weeks go by leading to the ultimate culmination, I'll have more things to add to the list. Oh well, at least I can look forward to crossing off things in my list with glee and gusto!

In other news, I've just started a new Salsa class with the boyfriend, the buddy and the buddy's better half. I've taken a few basic Salsa classes a few years back but man, am I rusty! Watching Anita, the instructor execute a graceful turn made me wonder if I could ever do that. I almost pity the guys too as they have to learn how to lead on top of learning all the steps... not an easy feat but I have a feeling that the guys are up for the challenge. One thing I know for sure though, classes are going to be "interesting" with these goofballs.

A Bad Day

New Necklaces

Here are some of the necklaces I've been working on and off since last month.

Pari Pari [pa-ree-pa-ree] = Fairy (Malay). A large vintage brass butterfly winged fairy with Swarovski crystals in Clear Crystal and two carved rose quartz beads.

Sayap Mutiara [sa-yap moo-tee-ah-rah] = Wing of Pearl (Malay). One of my favorite pieces. Antique silver filigree feather charm with Swarovski pearls in White.

Terbang [ter-bhang] = Fly (Malay). A large antique gold swooping swallow with Swarovski crystal heart in Fuschia and bicones in Dorado.

Bimbit [bim-bit] = to carry (Malay). A tiny handbag charm weaved with Swarovski crystals in various sizes plus a Czech flower bead and Swarovski pearl as the "button"

Hanya Mimpi [han-ya mim-pee] = Just a Dream (Malay). A large vintage brass butterfly with various brass butterfly charms and Swarovski briolette, butterfly and bicones. This piece is somewhat a departure from my usual style. Thought I'd "experiment" a little :)

Probably the Zillionth Review

Finally got our butts out to watch Transformers last night. One word: PHWOOOAR! Ok, two more words: F***ing AWESOME!

The movie made me want to go duuuuude and high-five the person sitting on my left, right, front and back! The CG was seamless and realistic (as realistic as transforming vehicles, tanks and planes can get)! The story line kept me glued to my seat, had me bursting out laughing at how human Autobots and Decipticons were rendered and dude, the chicks were hot! Haha. I can such a guy.

Anyways, 2 thumbs up plus 2 big toes! Here's the movie trailer...

Tag, you're IT!

I was tagged awhile ago by a lovely lady (check out her fabulous jewelry under the moniker Bintang) and just yesterday by dieselfire. Now, what are the chances that I'd be tagged by two people with the very same uh, tag (is that what you call it?). Anyways, I usually don't do tags but I think the universe is trying to tell me something, so here goes...

The rules are simple:
1) State 8 random facts/habits about myself on my blog;
2) Tag 8 other people by leaving a comment to that effect on their blogs; &
3) Ask them to have a look at my blog to read the rules of the Tag game.
Ok, got it? Let's start.

Fact #1/ I love animals (Except lizards. Read fact #7). I have 2 English Cocker Spaniels, 5 cats of unknown breeds and until recently, a French Lop rabbit. The rabbit just died at the old age of 7. We still miss her very much :(

Fact #2/ I help my mom to feed the stray cats and dogs in my neighborhood and I always keep cat food in my car just in case. The picture on the left is one of the strays that I feed almost everyday. He just basically stakes out my parking space and waits for me to come home every night.

Fact #3/ I'm very indecisive and an absolute procrastinator. That which can be done tomorrow will be done tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the next...

Fact #4/ I don't collect anything in particular but I have A LOT of things and I'm very, very messy. The boyfriend and I are constantly wading through my things. Shy la now. Haha.

Fact #5/ I have to read before I sleep. It helps my brain to "switch off." I'll read anything too if I can't get my hands on a book.... a brochure, shampoo bottle, anything!

Fact #6/ I adore fresh flowers. Especially the fragrant kind. Even as a student living in Australia I found a way to stretch my allowance to buy fresh flowers from the market.

Fact #7/ Lizards freak me out. Living in Asia, the common household lizards can be found almost EVERYWHERE... walking on the WALLS and on the CEILING! Ugh. They're unnatural I tell you. I don't mind chameleons or any of the pet variety actually but those nasty common household lizards make my skin crawl. Yuck.

Fact #8/ I love old sappy love/heartbreak songs. Patsy Cline, Billy Holiday, Nina Simone and such. I'm currently fixated on Edith Piaf's La Vie En Rose. Go watch the movie.

The Usual Suspects

Darma

Darma means good deed in Indonesian but if you look it up on Wikipedia (which I always do), in Sanskrit it means "the 'right way of living' or 'proper conduct,' especially in a religious sense." Hmmm.... excuse me while I think deep thoughts. Heh.

This double layer necklace has been sent to a special someone who did a very nice thing as the name Darma signifies. I bet you know who you are already right?? Darn. I'm so bad at keeping secrets. Here's hoping that it'll reach you in one piece and that you like it. ^_^

I made Darma with antique silver fine cable chains, 3mm Swarovski Crystals in Crystal and an 8mm Rose heart, plus I added a sweet medium sized Russian Doll Charm which I really can't get enough of. I only have very limited numbers of these charms and this particular one that I used here is hands down my favorite (a dark Persian blue with a Hot Pink rose).

Long Overdue

Loads of things have happened and are still happening in fact! Here’s a little run down of what happened since my last post:

We buried Bun Bun and Sweetheart in our garden
I started swapping on Swap-Bot.com!
Saw the play ‘My Fair Lady’ at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center courtesy of Mr A.J.
Celebrated my 26^th birthday at MiCasa Hotel and then Cynna (the boyfriend threw me a surprise party thanks largely in part to Azhar and Zulfah for running around arranging it. You guys rock!)
Had my annual birthday dinner with the parental units and half-sister at Hilton, KL Central
Celebrated Awok’s birthday at Cynna (we Geminis simply are fabulous dahling!)
Attended a Cukur Jambul ceremony for my littlest cousin, Anna Nurlisa
Danced my little tushie off at the Genting International Jazz Festival with the usual suspects (the boyfriend and the buddies. Must remember to thank Cuban Ambassador for the tickets)
and the boyfriend and I went to a total of 3 weddings (two Malay weddings and one Punjabi wedding)!

We probably did a whole lot more things but in this whirl of oh-so-much-things-to-do, I can’t seem to remember anything else right now. The boyfriend claims that I have the memory of a goldfish… I'm starting to agree! -_-

I’ve made a few new pieces of jewelry with my NEW vintage findings and charms, but have yet to take pictures. I’m really quite swamped with work, wholesale orders and all sorts of going-ons that’s it’s almost impossible to set aside time to do anything else other than what requires my immediate attention NOW! Sometimes I think it sucks to be me but then again when I count my blessings I know I’m just being a grouchy whinge. Heh.

My wholesale orders are piling up so if you’ve ordered something and you’re still waiting for me to finish it, please accept my deepest and sincerest apologies! I will get a move on the retail orders this week and will get them out by mail by Monday. Cross my heart!

Rain and Gray Skies

Bun Bun Bunny died today. One of the abandoned kitties that I named Sweetheart for her affectionate nature also died today. It's been hard on my mom and I, more so for my mom because she discovered Bun Bun dead in her hutch and she was the one that took Sweetheart to the vet when she found her extremely weak and unwilling to eat this morning. The vet put Sweetheart to sleep. I'm not going to go into details but let's just say that the rain and gray skies today here in Kuala Lumpur befits my mood.

I woke today with a hacking cough and a drippy nose plus a hangover from taking 2 huge gulpfuls of liquid Actifed last night. Looks like I have the flu and cough that's been going around these parts like an epidemic.

I decided to skip work and stayed in bed most of the morning until I had to run some minor errands for my mom. She casually mentioned when I got back that my 7 year-old rabbit, Bun Bun Bunny has been really weak since yesterday.

I went over to Bun Bun's hutch in the patio to verify this. I could see that Bun Bun was still breathing (thank God!) but she was lying down sprawled so I stuck my finger in to stroke her nose and she didn't move to nuzzle it like she usually does. That's strange, I thought. I opened the door to the hutch and she didn't jump up to the door to demand treats. Weird. I tried to pick her up and my usually feisty bunny didn't resist at all. She just couldn't move! Not only that but she hardly gave her favorite cereal Honey Graham Oh's a nibble before totally refusing it! My heart just crumbled and I feared the worst.

She moved her hind legs a little when I took her out of the hutch to lay her in our little garden... she even reached for some freshly cut grass so we haven't given up hope just yet. Everyone at home is now crossing all appendages: fingers, toes, arms and legs all, hoping that Bun Bun'll pull through another day.

An Answer to a Comment

Ye Gads! Who would've thought a comment left on my previous post could be so thought provoking?!? Read on:

Film noir...hmm. But where's the sex, violence and mystery? ;) Or is that too hot for this blog? Heh.

I feel the same sometimes, but I like to think of my life more of like a TV series, with each year being a new season. Been counting since early 2005 (since that's when I felt things started getting more...dramatic), so its now Season 3, in 2007.

New characters introduced each year (new people meeting), cast ensemble replacements (eg friends leaving), femme fatales (are there no more "nice" girls in KL?), and all the drama. And of course, there is an anchor (maybe a trusted friend, maybe an office setting).

Season 3 seems to be starting off pretty interesting so far, this year.

However, for you, the most important question is - are you enjoying your role in the movie that is your life so far, and do you think you could write your character better, and suggest better lines to the writers, or is she an audience favourite already? :)

Or is there another life / movie you should be in?

Well Anonymous, first of all this blog was intentionally created to sell my jewelry... advertising space if you will. So yeah; sex, violence and mystery is certainly too hot for this blog. Hah!

For awhile I did keep a separate blog with all the “juicy details” of my life but I kept getting these recurring nightmares of my kid (someday) finding the blog so I stopped. Anyways, I’m not a big fan of reading other people’s angst and neuroses (although I love to reading about other's “exploits”) so I thought I might as well stop littering cyberspace… plus my kid (someday) won’t be able to find any dirt on me to blackmail me with. Told you I was neurotic.

Truth be told however, this is how far sex, violence and mystery goes in my life nowadays: Regular sex scenes between 2 people in a monogamous relationship which trust me is hot; sometimes violent although not fatal road-rage; and there’s always a mystery… even though the mystery usually revolves around the all important question in my household: which one of my dogs peed on the carpet? All this drama in my life man! Now don’t tell me that’s not film noir! :P

Anyways Anonymous, I am to certain extent enjoying my role is this movie I call my life. I do think however that I need to have a heart to heart talk with the writers about the direction this character of mine is heading. Thanks for sharing Anonymous. And most importantly, thanks for asking.

A Role of A Lifetime

Sometimes I feel like I'm the lead actress in a movie that is my life. I'm playing the role of a slightly neurotic woman who is waiting for all her childhood fantasies to come true while pretending to be a fully-functional adult who pays her bills (most of the time), is in a stable relationship (most of the time) and is responsible, articulate and creative (most of the time). It's like every other romantic comedy movie you've ever seen, with all the grittiness of film noir.

My Weekend

What a week I had last week! I finally got around to cleaning my room (well, a part of it at least), then work at the office was nuts and I had to finish this massive order of earrings (Hi Joelee! Thanks for being such a doll!), followed by a fight with the boyfriend and to top it all off, my period decided to show up 1 week earlier than usual! Thank the heavens above for this looooong glorious Pertabalan Agong/ Labour Day/ Wesak weekend. A huge sigh of relief is in order: WHEW!

Frazzled nerves have since settled and the boyfriend and I have also kissed and made up. We were at Alexis (Ampang) on Friday night with some friends for dinner and to catch a live jazz quartet featuring vocalist/pianist Rachel Guerzo. Later at home, the boyfriend and I watched The Curse of the Golden Flower on DVD (pirated) while spooning.

The very next day we were back at Alexis for some coffee and free wifi for the boyfriend after grocery shopping. I had the latest InStyle magazine to keep me entertained and was content with snuggling and bugging the boyfriend every now and then. Honestly folks, it doesn’t get much better than this.

We woke up early on Sunday morning and I made us some pancakes for breakfast. He said my pancakes are better than Dome’s but then again, we both agree they make crappy pancakes so I’m not impressed. :P

The boyfriend later went out to play golf with his buddies so I had the whole day to myself to be totally self-indulgent… But what do I do? I spend the whole afternoon taking pictures of my new jewelry and the rest of the day editing! Heh. I got to use the boyfriend’s new Ricoh Caplio camera though (with his express consent of course!) of which I totally love for its amazing Macro Zoom feature that captures amazing feature in teeny tiny detail. Being the PhotoShop freak that I am, I immediately wanted to edit the pictures but I have yet to install PhotoShop on this new laptop so I used Picasa instead, which in my opinion, didn’t quite do the job. Ah well, no big fuss. I can always edit the pictures properly later. Check out the pictures here.

Meet My New Babies

Ok, so I've been neglecting this blog. But guess what? I've been blessed with double happiness... My new hand phone that does everything except clean the house and walk the dogs. Nokia's N80 is pretty darn fantastic and the price is really good for all its bells and whistles. I love being able to surf the net in bed, in the loo, while waiting for hopelessly late bosses. 3G rocks!

And another baby...
Lenovo Y400 lap top. Now, before you go, "Leno-what??" please be informed that Lenovo is the company that bought over IBM. Also, it's one of the sponsors for my fav F1 racing team, McLaren! No, no, no... that's not the real reason why I bought this little baby. I just happen to think the specs were awesome for the price I was getting. Note: always buy computer related stuff after huge PC Fairs. Prices are sure to come down by a huge margin. The boyfriend bought this exact lap top late February at a pretty good price but I got RM600 knocked off the price when I bought it last week after the huge yearly KL PC Fair. Muahaha!

Anyways, I'm back and will be creating new jewelry and accessories - well, after I've played around some more with my new babies!

These pictures were from 2 weeks back when the boyfriend and I tried out this sort-of-new Chinese Muslim Restaurant at Novotel, KL. It's called Qing Zhen and they've been open since January (so they're not so new, but new to the boyfriend and I anyways. Ahaks!) and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Chinese food with a halal twist. Do note however that most fantastic Chinese restaurants in Malaysia are halal to cater to all customers. The only thing that really makes Qing Zhen stand out is the Islamic decor which was very authentic and I can not stress this enough: really, really yummy Chinese food.

Can you imagine an affordable (MYR 35++ per person) EIGHT course meal with all your favorite food?! I almost died and went to heaven from eating so much yummies! And the scary thing was that I couldn't stop myself!! It was one good thing served after another.... *contented sigh* Do check them out if you're hankering for some good eats at somewhere new.

Teratai evokes a very different feeling from Tender; this piece is elegantly feminine whereas the later has a sort of whimsical charm but I love both either way. :)

Noticed my new banner? Hacked it out in 15 minutes because I was so sick and tired of the moudly, old banner that was just so blah! and boring. Now that I’ve figured out how to do this banner thingamajig, I’m going to have fun messing up Blogger’s templates.

Now, if only I had more time.

As you can see from the lack of updates, I’ve been a very busy woman. So much so, that I’ve had to sacrifice a big part of my life for the last 2 years: my stall at Mont Kiara’s flea market.

I guess it’s about time I move on to bigger and better things but you can’t blame me for having mixed feelings about letting go of something that has been such a fixation in my life. I use the word fixation because I was constantly thinking of new ways to display my jewelry and to attract customers; it became almost a habit to look at potential displays and to mentally sort out ways to conveniently pack it and how it’d fit with the rest of my displays. Yes, fixation is definitely an appropriate word in this context.

I officially relinquished my spot at Mont Kiara last Sunday. It was quite a novelty to wake up late on a beautiful Sunday morning and stretch in bed for a whole hour with absolutely nothing better to do than to have brunch with the boyfriend later. Although I kept getting this nagging little feeling tugging at the corner of my heart, I think I could definitely get used to lazy Sundays spent with loved ones.

I have always loved woven and intricate jewelry so when I chanced upon this pattern which was originally meant for a totally different piece of jewelry, I modified it and made it my own. Ah yes, Kuntum has been a labor of love and even though I almost went blind from all the minute details that this sort of weaving requires (ok fine, I'm exagerating :P ), I would gladly do it again. No, seriously. :)

Workshop for 24

Last week was a little crazy for me as I had to get ready for a workshop of 24 ladies from a large corporation on Saturday. All of them were beginners so I prepacked my little organza bags with enough findings and beads for a simple 3 strand necklace and bracelet set. Knowing how we ladies love to customize our jewelry, I gave the ladies free reign on bead placement plus a choice of color/bead scheme: Elegant (Swarovski pearls), Stylish (Swarvoski crystals in complementary colors) and Casual (Swarovski crystals in monochromatic colors plus silver accent beads). They proved to be really creative and I certainly hope they had fun as much as I did! ;)

Aren't these the cutest?!? They're on the way to me from Japan as you're reading this... and I can't believe I'm soooo excited over some kitschy dolls! 0_o

Anyways, the Unazukins above are nesting dolls (duh) much like the traditional Russian ones but given a cutesy facelift by the folks at Bandai. The one in red NODS and SHAKES its head!!! How cool is that????!?!? I'm such a sucker for a cheap gimmick... *sigh* Oh well, at least they'll look really cute on my workspace.

My boyfriend loves seeing me in pretty and girly pieces, so I thought I'd remake these for the benefit of anyone who loves pretty and girly accessories too! ^_^

Tender Blossoms is a simple piece meant those days you just want to add a touch of girlishness to that staid, boring outfit.

Made with 2 Czech glass flowers on each side in a salmon pink kind of color and topped with silver beads and a Light Rose 5mm Swarovski crystal plus Czech glass leaves. Retails @ RM20/US$6

Tender Tendrils look familiar? Well, it's this piece minus the extra crystals dripping from the chains. I love how it hangs and the colors of the blooms are just right.
